Our Network aims

CIPA seeks to bring together African organisations and stakeholders involved in supporting and advocating for children of incarcerated parents. We are made up of community activists and aligned partners in advocacy, research and policy.

  • We aim to celebrate and showcase the work of CIPA partners to help increase awareness of the cause and visibility of the organisations both nationally and internationally.

Our goal is to be a global platform for advocacy - championing the rights of children of incarcerated parents specific to the African context.

  • We are committed to strengthening and developing best practice models for our partners through accessible lectures, presentations, and sharing of research findings and approaches that empower affected children.

  • We aim to create regional committees to map children in need, identify gaps in provision, and celebrate the work being done alongside identifying funding and development partners.

Types of Partners

Grassroots organisations

We bring together organisations (NGOs, CSOs, CBOs, FBOs) supporting children and families affected by parental imprisonment across Africa.

Research Partners

We collaborate with researchers, universities, and other academic bodies to build a body of data to identify specific needs to inform policy and practice reforms.

Community Activists

We value the involvement of community activists, as well as the insights and contributions of those with lived experience to keep us on track.
